Brief: 109 proprietors of Milford purchased some 100 square miles from the Weantinock Indians in 1702. Settlement began in 1707 and the town was incorporated as New Milford in October 1712. New Preston village was incorporated as part of the Town of Washington in 1779. The South Farms section was incorporated into the Town of Brookfield in 1788.
