History Brief:
This land was originally the southern part of the 225 square miles that comprised the Town of Farmington. Some settlers were here as early as 1696. The land was divided among some of the proprietors of Farmington in 1722. Panthorn Society was formed 14 May 1724. In October 1779, the Parish of Panthorn was incorporated as the town of Southington. Town vital records begin 1852. Barbour collection records cover 1779-1857.
